Characteristics of landslide path dependency revealed through multiple resolution landslide inventories in the Nepal Himalaya

چکیده
Recent research in Umbria, Italy, has shown that landslide susceptibility is controlled by a process called path-dependency, which describes how past landslides control the locations of future landslides. To date, path-dependency only been characterised Italy. This raises question whether this occurs other geomorphic settings, and thus should be more universally included assessments. Therefore, main aim paper to investigate quantify path dependency Nepal Himalaya. achieved applying several dependent metrics three monsoon-triggered inventories for central-eastern These were developed at two different spatial temporal resolutions. As such, we not just but also assess characteristics are resolution-dependent. We find strong evidence occurring Nepal, with all having overlap between new than expected from random distribution, tentative observation degree decreases time. Finally, whilst observable across both investigated inventory resolutions, rates magnitudes quantified sensitive length, study region size size/type mapped. Overall, our results corroborate observations confirming does occur suggesting explicitly considered approaches.

Evaluation of a preliminary satellite-based landslide hazard algorithm using global landslide inventories
Most landslide hazard assessment algorithms in common use are applied to small regions, where highresolution, in situ, observables are available. A preliminary global landslide hazard algorithm has been developed to estimate areas of potential landslide occurrence in near real-time by combining a calculation of landslide susceptibility with satellite derived rainfall estimates to forecast areas...
متن کاملInterferometry SAR for landslide Hazard Assessment in Garhwal Himalaya, India
Landslides are a major geological hazard in Garhwal Himalayas, since they are widespread dynamic processes that cause damage, and even loss of life, every year. Development of urban areas, Highway construction and expanded land use in Garhwal Himalaya mountain regions has increased the incidence of landslide disasters. The enormous damage caused by landslides can be reduced by means of monitori...
متن کاملOn the characteristics of landslide tsunamis
This review presents modelling techniques and processes that govern landslide tsunami generation, with emphasis on tsunamis induced by fully submerged landslides. The analysis focuses on a set of representative examples in simplified geometries demonstrating the main kinematic landslide parameters influencing initial tsunami amplitudes and wavelengths. Scaling relations from laboratory experime...
متن کاملPredicting the susceptibility of landslide occurrence in order to manage landslide risk in Bar Neyshabur watershed
Background and objective: Landslide susceptibility zoning using different methods is one of the landslide management strategies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the landslides susceptibility in the Bar watershed in Khorasan Razavi province using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. Method: First, the landslide layer of the area was corrected through field visits and Google Earth...
متن کاملA Semi-Automated Object-Based Approach for Landslide Detection Validated by Persistent Scatterer Interferometry Measures and Landslide Inventories
Geoinformation derived from Earth observation (EO) plays a key role for detecting, analyzing and monitoring landslides to assist hazard and risk analysis. Within the framework of the EC-GMES-FP7 project SAFER (Services and Applications For Emergency Response) a semi-automated object-based approach for landslide detection and classification has been developed. The method was applied to a case st...
